Saronic's $3.2B Port Alpha Shipyard Makes Brownsville a Defense Hub
Austin-based defense startup Saronic Technologies will build Port Alpha, a $3.2 billion autonomous naval shipyard at the Port of Brownsville, projected to create over 10,000 jobs across 800 acres expandable to 4,000. Governor Abbott and Sen. Cornyn announced it as the largest shipyard in the country.
Why it matters: This is a generational demand shock for the entire Cameron County vendor base — site work, fabrication, staffing, housing, and services will all be sourced over the coming years. It also resets wage expectations and land values across the region.
